It's been almost a year since I last blogged! Talk about procrastination...

And Aden is turning 1 year old in less than 2 weeks' time!!

The other day I popped by Jerb's blog and I am so inspired by her to make a scrapbook for Aden!

To be exact, I have 13 more days (excluding today) to work on it and I have not gotten any materials! :'(

And I lack creativity!!!! *HELP!!!!*

I guess I should pop by the scrapbook store tomorrow and in the mean time, I shall squeeze some 'creative juice' out of my brain!

And yes, to think that I was so excited when little Aden was still in my tummy, being a very kiasu Singapore Mother, I set up a blog, an email as well as a Facebook account for him!

I'm excited about 2009, I really am!

Because there are so many things that I wanna do, I wanna achieve!

Mei Jia will not longer be the same as before

I am determine to make life better and better!

I have been living life thinking that there's always a tomorrow... - Procrastination!

2009 will be a brighter, better and more successful year! YES IT WILL BE!

I spent a bit of time thinking about my New Year Resolution, something which I have never fulfill in my life so far, and I am determine to stick to my plans in '09!

#1: QC, QCE, A&H & SC!
2009 will be a year I am more successful in work and achievement! Will have to work out a more detailed plan with my boss.

#2: A better health!
I have been falling ill in '08. Too many times! And it really drags me down and I feel fatigue always! And this leads me to the next point...

#3: More runs!
I will go for more run, work out and marathons! (erm.. half marathons I mean)

#4: Better quality time with my family
First thing to do is to treat them a well deserve meal probably after CNY. They have been ever-supporting for whatsoever things I do! Mom especially!

#5: A break-away trip alone
I love doing things alone at times and I hope a trip like this will allow me to discover myself more!

#6: More friends, less enemies!
I haven't been a good girl all these while and I guess my personality has offended quite a number of people. Nonetheless, I ain't the sort of person who would bear hatred because I forget things easily. I just don't like to bring up the past & bad memories.

#7: A life with God
Yes though I may be back attending church, I came to realize that it is not enough. Seriously, I do miss times when I was in CG and ministry. These helped me in my growth and walk with God and leaning upon God's strength. On top of that, I learn people skills which help me in my work as well. I will join a CG.

#8: A giver
May not be financially, but if I am capable, why not? I will donate blood and also give my time to people. Not in church alone, but my family and my marketplace, my clients and my friends.

#9: Be financially healthy too!
I want to see my bank account fat! And my investment, my portfolios and my insurance!!

I ~~hope~~ know by end of 2009, these points that I state will be fulfilled!

Proud to be one!

Yesterday was rather eventful for me
Oh by the way, it has been quite a while since I blog about myself

Had an appointment yesterday that made me feel worthy of what I am doing
And most importantly, to be the Salt and Light of the earth

A client of mine, S, called me the day before, panicked due to the current market situation thus we decided to meet up yesterday to allow me to explain to her.

The appointment was long yet fruitful.

People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

S shared with me about her situation at home and poured out her sorrows. I'm glad I was there to listen, just like Prudential's slogan - "Always Listening, Always Understanding".

Before we parted, S asked which church I am attending because Christmas is coming. I told her CHC and asked if she has been to church before, and to my surprise, she attended CHC when we were still located next to Lion City Hotel!

And I asked if I could bring her daughter to church with me during Christmas, and she said I could contact the girl directly! BTW, she's primary 6 this year. :)

Then back at the office, I was asking a colleague, James, some questions and he suddenly told me that he is attending church now! Not CHC. And being a new Christian, he has many questions on his mind, yet by faith, he has been attending his church for 3 weeks!

I explained to him some things and tried clearing his doubts, but I realized that my bible knowledge is so pathetic! I tried to recall for the words that was spoken during Asia Conference, which were still fresh on my mind. I guess I did manage to clear some queries he have. :) PTL!

Being a Christian is not just about saying the sinner's prayer! But of course, but confessing to Him that we are sinners is one step of faith, but we ought to be like Christ!

Action speaks louder than words!

Other than confessing, we need to believe that He is the Lord. And not to be afraid to let others know that we are Christian! And when we proclaim that we are of His, we need to be mindful with our actions and words. We NEED to renew our mind! By feeding our spiritual being with the words and communicating with the Holy Spirit!

I'm proud to be His, are you?

I am not perfect, yet. And I do make mistakes, still. I ask forgiveness to those whom I may have offended and/or hurt in the past, present or future. I am still learning...

YEA! I'm going to Osaka and Kyoto in January!!

The past weeks, especially last week, was crazy and tiring.
Have been running here and there, other than answering some clients' questions with regards to their investment, I was also running hard for Osaka & Kyoto incentive!

Singapore's story

SINGAPORE: Few, if any, would dispute that the most dramatic of the 43 annual National Day Rally speeches was the one in 1971. It was the first one telecast live. Even more extraordinarily, it went on air without prior notice.

The previous five rallies were closed—door sessions. Then, Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew wanted to talk candidly to political, business and grassroot leaders without having to pull his punches. Many of the things he needed to tell his people were highly—sensitive matters in those troubled times.

Our neighbours, particularly Malaysia — from which Singapore was expelled in 1965 — could have been upset with varying degrees of justification.

Mr Lee did not want to exercise self—censorship at National Day Rallies.

Because of the presence of some content that was potentially offensive or explosive, Singapore media could not report what was said until days later, when edited versions of transcripts were issued for publication.

Why, then, the apparently sudden decision by Mr Lee to go live at the National Day Rally on Aug 15, 1971? Even his closest Cabinet colleagues did not know of the totally unexpected departure from established practice.

How the producer lived to tell the tale

Mr Ananda Perera, 69, a retired senior executive of the then—Singapore Broadcasting Corporation, tells an enthralling inside story about that night:

After I read Peter Lim’s deja vu recall of ’the night it first went live ...’ (Weekend TODAY, Aug 23—24), I felt I should share my experience.

I was the producer of the live telecast of that historic National Day Rally speech. The usual ’drill’ for such occasions was as follows:

PM is met on arrival at the car porch of the National Theatre (now demolished, at the foot of Fort Canning Hill). The producer follows PM to the make—up room for any last—minute instructions.

On that historic evening, I was asked by PM Lee Kuan Yew what was on local channels from 7.30 pm onwards. I told him. Then he asked me an unexpected question: What is on RTM channels? (RTM was Radio and Television Malaysia.)

Fortunately, having worked with him on many such productions, I was prepared. I told him what was on RTM 1 and 2. Then he reached into his pocket and took out a cutting of the TV programme listings for the day to counter—check!

This is how prepared you must be when you deal with Mr Lee Kuan Yew. He asked me whether we can go live. I said yes.

He instructed me to make multi—lingual announcements on both radio and TV by fading all programmes on air to blank. He also told me to ensure that we make Malay, Tamil, Mandarin and English announcements to ensure that the audience at the National Theatre was kept informed.

We did so.

I immediately rushed to the OB (outside broadcast) van in the car park to call my director, the late Mrs Wong—Lee Siok Tin. This is what I told her: "Please don’t ask any questions. PM has instructed that we fade all radio and TV programmes on air (and make) the announcement that we are going to live telecast/broadcast PM’s National Day Rally speech at the National Theatre."

There was a gasp at the other end of the line. I told Mrs Wong to just go ahead as I had a number of things to do, given that we hardly had 10 minutes to airtime!

Just 10 minutes into the live broadcast, Cabinet Secretary, Wong Chooi Sen tapped on our OB van door to ask me: "Hey, Ananda, Dr Goh Keng Swee (then the Defence Minister) wants to know whether you are absolutely certain that PM instructed you to broadcast live!"

Though I died a thousand deaths at that moment, I shouted a firm YES and told him not to disturb me.

After the broadcast I rushed back to meet PM at the make—up room. He asked me whether the broadcast went live without technical hitches. I said it went flawlessly. He said ’good’ and I lived to tell the tale!

Why did he have the sensation of dying a thousand deaths?

"We had only four cameras set up; that’s really not enough," Mr Perera recalls. "And we had no script!" The veteran TV executive explains one of live telecasts’ trade secrets. With a script, the TV producer seated at his console will know what the speaker is about to say and whether there will be a comment on or acknowledgement of someone’s presence in the audience.

The producer can then decide whether and when to pan one or more of the cameras to bring the person on screen.

Without a script, the producer has to rely on flair, experience and instinctive judgment to direct the camera crew and decide what to show on screen at any and every moment of the telecast.

"Supposing I have on screen a close—up of a Cabinet minister or some other VVIP and the PM says at that exact moment something disparaging or highly critical ...!" Mr Perera does not finish that sentence. With the shock and awe in his voice, there is no need to.

Why PM Lee did it in 1971

Weekend Xtra asked Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew why he decided to go live with the 1971 National Day Rally speech.

"I had been thinking of reaching beyond the grassroots leaders when candidly discussing the problems of the time,” Mr Lee says. “Since I could leave out the ultra—sensitive parts to avoid annoying our neighbours, I decided to go live."

Why was the live telecast put out in such an urgent fashion that even Dr Goh reportedly did not know in advance?

"I decided it late, but had been mulling it over for some time."

Were you still weighing the pros and cons as you were being driven to the National Theatre?

"It was not a life—and—death decision because all it meant was deleting a few subjects from my notes."

Mr Lee has packed so much into those succinct answers.

The problems of the time were many and seemingly intractable. Just six years earlier, as Mr Lee says in volume two of his memoirs From Third World To First, "we were given no choice but to leave" Malaysia.

"The years after 1965 were hectic and filled with anxiety, as we struggled to find our feet," he says in the book. "We were relieved when we found in 1971 that we had created enough jobs to avoid heavy unemployment even though the British withdrew their forces from Singapore."

But Mr Lee and his Cabinet colleagues were not yet "confident that we could make it on our own".

During the 1969 Malaysian election campaign, the governing "Alliance leaders made wild and groundless allegations that Singapore leaders had interfered in their politics", according to Mr Lee in his book.

Deadly race riots broke out in Kuala Lumpur on May 13, three days after the 1969 polls. A bit of the racial violence spilt over to Singapore, necessitating fast and firm counter—measures by government.

"The Utusan Melayu (a Malay—language newspaper based in Malaysia and which also circulated in Singapore then) became even more pro—Malay and openly hostile towards the Singapore government, belittling our efforts to help Singapore Malays," Mr Lee says in the book.

According to Mr Lee in the book, there was only one Malaysian government leader who was not prejudiced against Singapore. He was Deputy Prime Minister Tun Dr Ismail, who visited Singapore in April 1971 and "we had a good talk".

That held out hopes if not expectations of an improvement in cross—Causeway relations.

But it was early days yet when NDR came around four months later. Relations between the two countries were still tense and tender. A wrong word or phrase from either side could inflame passions of the negative kind.

Hence, Dr Goh must have been horrified when he heard from his seat at the National Theatre that the PM’s speech was going on air live. For Mr Lee was and is not known as one who minces his words.

Mr Lee now reveals that he exercised self—censorship, excising from his notes — there was no prepared text — things that he needed to tell Singaporeans yet would be ultra—sensitive should our neighbours get to hear of them.

It was a momentous decision! Singapore’s first Prime Minister censored himself, or edited himself, and launched one of the high points of the Singaporean political year: The annual National Day Rally live telecast.

So what did then PM Lee say in 1971?

Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s off—the—cuff speech to his audience of about 3,500 people started with a brief explanation of his decision to go on air live: "We cannot go on doing the things we are doing unless not only you but a lot of other people outside know the raison d’etre, the background, the reasons, the problems..."

Then he touched on the progress Singapore had made and thought aloud about leadership transition. He elaborated on the need for long—term planning; Singapore’s security and sovereignty; US President Richard Nixon’s forthcoming ceremonial visit to China and the lesson from it — expect the unexpected; the Vietnam war; the Commonwealth Five comprising Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.

"Being a small country in a strategic position ... we should try and avoid being sacrificed as pawns," Mr Lee said.

He outlined Singapore’s economic need to "go on from physical servicing to brain servicing"; the inevitability of letting in foreign workers; and "supposing the worst happens — sometimes I get glimpses of what may go wrong".

So the government prepared for worst—case scenarios. "And that’s what we are trying to do and never mind what the newspapers tell you," Mr Lee said. "If they know as much as we do, they should be running Singapore, isn’t it? Particularly those who (have) just come up from the university."

Mr Lee ended his speech by saying "we will see this place safe and secure ... make use of the time, be it five years, be it six, be it 10".

Does that strike you as a less—than—confident Lee Kuan Yew 37 years ago? Well, that was 1971 and those were uncertain times. Minister Mentor Lee is now much more confident about Singapore’s future.

Toilet paper please!

I was at Bugis on Friday
And something annoying happened when I was in the toilet

I was in one of the cubicles doing 'my business'
When someone suddenly shouted from another cubicle asking for toilet paper
She sounded like a 'Ang mo' though...

Caucasian lady, "Can somebody outside please pass me some papers please."

Silence...

And she goes again, this time louder, "Can somebody outside please pass me some papers please!!"

Silence again...

And she went on a few more times with no response from outside.

(I was in the cubicle still, told you I was doing 'my business' and she's not next to me!)

And she said something like she could not believe this is a society that we are living in... (I don't remember what exactly she said)

Then before I came of of the cubicle, finally an old lady responded to her and the old lady shouted in Mandarin asking for someone outside to pass the Caucasian some papers.

Silence AGAIN!

I was quite pissed off actually.
I came out of the cubicle, look at the queue and I stared at them.
The old lady came out shortly after me, and because I finished using the last few pathetic pieces of papers, I went into the cubicle that the old lady used, took the papers and gave it to the Caucasian woman.

Washed my hand and stared at those women in the queue and walked off.

This incident made me wonder, is what the Caucasian said about our society true? I mean, how people see us as Singaporean?

Indeed, we're living in a selfish, self-centered and a none-of-my-business society.

It is not as if we do not understand English, and even so, the nice old lady tried to ask in Mandarin but no one seems to response!

My fellow Singaporean, when will we become a more selfless and more friendlier society?

And me, unknowingly, said, "Wah, then I Cross Club loh, ehhh no no, it's Christ Club! Wanna join?" (While holding onto the Cross hanging on my necklace)

Went ECP to jog on Sunday evening
The weather was good
Windy and cloudy
Preparing myself for the Standard Chartered Run in Dec

No, I am not going for full nor half marathon
I'm just going for 10km
The last run I went was Shape Run
Which was held in July

No training, no stretching (PLEASE DO NOT LEARN FROM ME)
I ran and completed the run!
Ok lah, not exactly RUNNnNn...
erm.. I walked also
And came back with muscle-ache all over my body
Yet the feeling of completing a run was awesome
Never had I ever dare to imagine that I could
It's really a mind testing ground

So last Sunday I decided to run again
This time round it is to train and practice for Stand-Chart
Was listening to the Ipod playing Hillsongs (The I Heart Revolution)
And repeating to myself that I am running for Christ!
Awesome awesome!

Starting point was the Car park near Fort Road
Then covered the short distance to the end of ECP at Fort Road
And then towards McDonald's
I have no idea how far I ran, anyone any idea?

Newton Food Centre and Alliance Francaise De Singapour
Fencing @ Balmoral Plaza in the little Mini, waiting
That cafe along Bukit Timah with nice pizzas and yummy desserts
And that restaurant at Sixth Avenue

Images of Szechuan earthquake kept playing in my mind
I'm feeling very disturbed

I feel very sorry for the people
Before 12 May, life was simple to many of them
Kids attended school as usual
And I believe many of them look forward to school each day
Parents and grandparents look forward to their returns
But on 12/5/08, many didn't
And those who managed to escape
Didn't get to see the elders too
Within an hour, many were made orphans, widows, widowers and etc

Home to many of them
Were no longer safe
Many chose to sleep outdoor
For the fear of another quake
Depression, fear, grieve
These are the only feelings that most of them have right now

Forget not those heroes
Who helped many to escape
Yet end up losing their lives
Truly in situation like this
That we can see the selfless being of Man
And the love of parents toward children
Strangers helping strangers

I didn't know the seriousness of the quake
And took it lightly before Sunday night
I'm ashame
I feel like a fool and ignorance

May the peace of God be with the survivors

It's SATURDAY!!

Though weekends does not make much different to me
I still love weekends! :))

It's 4pm now and I spent the whole day cleaning up the room
The last time I cleaned up thoroughly was probably 2 or 3 months ago!
Not to worry, once in a while I still sweep the floor and clear the rubbish bin

Anyway, no appointments kept today
But I spent it by cleaning up...
Now the room smells good and looks clean and fresh!

And the Sunflowers (the fake and the dried ones) brighten up the room!
Plus the purple-ish wall, pink bedsheets and the soft toys...

Much to my surprise,
I am coping well with changes

I thought I was weak
but moments like these made me stronger

Changes are inevitable
I hate changes though
But without changes in life,
Life could be quite boring.

One of the major change is the ~~stupid~~ CPF ruling
It will definitely cut off a lot of income

But on the other hand,
with this change comes by,
I would definitely and BO BIAN,
have to work 101% harder on the main stream of income
and that is the recurrent premium.

I went to Compass Point for an appointment. The prospect called me to say that he will be late. So since he's going to be late, I went to trim the brows because it was rather messy!

The d*** f***ing Ind*** girl went on and on and on to trim my brows until nothing much is left!

And worse still, she claimed that it was because my brows was untidy and difficult to trim, so she had to "try" to trim so that both side would be symmetrical!

Due to popular demand, I shall talk a little about my trip to the foreign land, Hong Kong.

Else, I guess nobody would ever bother to drop by here anymore...

Anyway, to be frank, both D and me didn't enjoy the trip at all. Our first trip outside Singapore ended up with arguments and tears and many disappointments.

It was caused by the lack of planning and us being too concern for each other.

We, still, love each other very much. At least on my part I still do. And I know he does love me very much too, to date.

Nevertheless, HK is great. The dim sum @ Maxim's Palace, the nice and chilly weather in January, and the Boutique Hotel that we stayed for 2 nights were FANTAbulous!! (Fantastic + Fabulous)

Plus the Laser Light Show was b.e.a.u.tiful!

Boyfriend took some pictures, maybe, depend on my mood, I may upload a few. :))

Still, I would like to go Hong Kong again. To visit places that I missed and to stay more than 3 days 2 nights! And of course, proper planning before flying and I wish to be there with the same person, and that's you, my beloved...

AND I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO JIA!!!!

And it got me thinking, what have I done in 'o7?

PS: Serene Wong (Pri/Sec) and Serene Chua (Poly/NoOne)

#1. My job.
No longer do I call myself a Lab Technician. I am a Financial Adviser now. No more blood. No more ABO. No more cells counting. No more no more. It's all about investment, savings and life insurance. Most importantly, it's about protection.

*I do not despise lab technician, its just that I'm glad I am no longer into something which I dislike. :)

#2. My friends
I do hang out with NoOne still and Darlin VioShaw (Violet and Shawn). But I'm glad I made new friends at work. New colleagues and especially many managers at Prudential.
Also, I'm glad to know JP too! And T, N and Ging. :) And of course Fresh, my best friend who doesn't complain about how not-tasty my cooking is. He finished everything! :)

#3. Make up
I can't step out of the house without putting anything on my face. Really. Make up is a wonder! There's no ugly women, only the lazy ones!

#4. My weight
OK, let's admit. I was really fat last time lah! Not that I am very skinny now but at least I have many people telling me that I have lost a lot of weight, and that I look better now. :) Who doesn't like to look good, feel good? :) Don't worry, I am not suffering from bulimic nor am I anorexic. I am eating well.

#5. Sister
My relationship with my sister is better now. Both of us have grown up and some day, some how, I believe we need each other. Blood is thicker than water. I do admit that some times when I am down, I just feel like calling her and pour out my sorrows. I do want to give her a hug and tell her that I love her and I am proud to have her as my sister. Well, being Asian and Chinese, we are not brought up in this way. So, I am shy lah. I hope 'o8 I will be able to overcome this fear. :)

#6. Myself
Yes, I feel that I have changed. No longer am I the same. Some how, I feel I have grown up. Taking up more responsibilities. Doing the adult things, talking about the adult things. Work, money, family and marriage. I do think about marriage too. Seeing some friends getting married and a handful even have their kiddos, some times I wonder, when is my turn? OK, my ideal age to get married is 27. Hopefully the wedding bells will sound by 2013. Heehee!

Change is inevitable in life. Change is the only constant in life.

i can't sleep
i dont know why
spent almost 3 hours to clear my wardrobe
not that i have many clothes
i ironed most of them :)

just read through some blog entries by reuben
one of the 5 dragon boaters who passed on last week
life is so fragile
i hope he is in peace now with God
i pray

many thoughts in my mind
one of the entries he talked about him chatted with a taxi driver
it makes me think that does the driver still remembers him?
how does he feel now...

and this makes me think further
will people still remember me?
will they cry?
what kind of memories do i have with them?

and it teaches me to treasure my loved ones even more
to have them safe by my side
knowing that they are doing fine
this is the most important thing in life!

communication is the key of life!
resolve problems
forgive and forget
treasure those you love
before it is too late
tell your loved ones that you love them
because you never know when is the last time that they will hear that from you...

how time flies!

Enlighten?

Same for hobbies and passions and interest.
Many of us like to play sports, but how many of us are actually having the hobbies as their career?

This is a very debatable topic, I think.
Not going too much into it, of course!

I really love what I am doing, though I have many down times, many rejections and many also pang seh me last minute!
Still, I love having my free time, I love meeting people and I love to know that I am helping them in the area of finance in their life! And of course I love to know that they appreciate me for what I am doing and to know that they trust me!

Many people I would want to thank for their supports every since I started. The words of encouragement and the supporting hands to pull me up when I was down. Being the very first few clients of mine and spending time listening to my presentations.

Millions of thank you to these special people.
especially boyfriend for tolerating my nonsense.

I don't want to mention any names because friends who have been there for me, they know who they are. :)

Anyway, some people commented that Prudential advisers are !@#$%^&*.
I laugh. No I am not affected because I am not !@#$%^&*.
Just felt that these people are ignorant.
Or maybe some advisers are really shadow advisers. Like how they follow the prospect like shadow. Heehee.

But nevermind about what the fools say.
I know what I am doing is right and I am proud of it.
Still, like what boyfriend always says, take some distance from it.

I'm running hard for the goal.
